New wine in old bottle

Alright, review time again. This time it is the Hero Honda Passion Plus. Even though I am not a fan of 100cc bikes, I have a special attachment towards Passion, because it was the bike which I decided to buy before I owned the Karizma. Hero Honda’s engineers have really worked well on the design. The bike looks beautiful from every angle. Passion Plus is designed with three things in mind looks, looks, looks. The sticker design has been changing as the years pass by, but the basic design remains the same.

Looks and designs

Hero Honda claims the Passion Plus to be a ‘Whole new world of style.’ And they are not kidding. When you look at the various colors that the bike has, you will understand that they are serious about it. Gone are the times where you buy a black, red or blue colored bike. Passion comes in six variants of multicolor designs. I feel that the best is ‘black and sport red’, which has a black doom with red stickers and red tail with black stickers. That’s the color which they use for the TV commercial and the fastest selling variant. If you want to see more variants, visit the official website and click Colors.

My Passion

The Passion has the same engine as that of the other 100cc counter parts from Hero Honda. There is nothing much to talk about the performace because its just a new wine in an old bottle. When I drove the bike, I felt just like when I tried Splendor NXG, except for the fact that I was driving a better looking bike. The tank is little bigger and better suited for people who feel Splendor is small for them. The dash board features the speedometer with a yellow backdrop as seen in the new Karizma R.

New world of style

Some of the highlights that I cannot miss to mention are? the all black engine, alloy wheels and body colored hand grips. The black engine nicely merges with the overall look of the bike. I wonder why so many Bikes still have the aluminum shaded engine. The bike costs Rs.49, 000 on road. You can save Rs.3000 if you do not want the allow wheels, but I do not recommend spoke wheels because it will spoil the beauty of the bike.

Conclusion

If you are a student, never even think of buying Splendor, which is for aged people, he he !! If you want a bike from one of the largest two-wheeler manufacturers from the world, if you do not want to spend too much and yet have cool looks, if you want great mileage so that you need not keep asking your dad for filling the tank every week (like I do) then what are you waiting for? Passion Plus is your choice!

For Michael Jordan, life is about dribbling, passing, shooting, and dunking the basketball with tremendous grace. For Tiger Woods, life is about coordinating with the wind to hit a hole-in-one. For Mike Tyson, life is about striking his arms to the fullest of his strength that he may bring his opponent down as early as possible. Life has different definitions for Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, and Mike Tyson because of their passions. Around 40 years ago, there was a boy who was very passionate about computers. As a young boy, he was admitted to Lakeside School in Seattle and there he got hooked to the computer. There are many ways to attract wild birds to your garden and hopefully to set up home in your garden bird house. Providing food and a safe place to eat is one of the easiest and most effective ways. This is particularly important during the winter months when there may be lack of their natural food.

Set up feeding stations designed for the different species you would like to see in your garden.

For finches place specially designed thistle feeders that hold the small thistle feeds that they love. Other speciality bird feeders include hummingbird feeders to hold nectar, woodpecker feeders and jay feeders. Tube feeders are designed to prevent seeds spilling on the ground and keep the seeds dry. You could also set up a window feeder to see the birds from the comfort of your room.

Always check the food regularly to make sure it is dry and free from mold and clean up around the feeder to deter wasps, ants and other predators. If squirrels are a problem in your garden be sure to purchase a squirrel proof bird feeder.

Provide Fresh Water for the Birds

Wild birds need a source of fresh water for both drinking and bathing. You could provide this with water pans or bird baths. Place water containers at various levels as some birds prefer ground level, others will be attracted to water placed at a higher level. Place any water sources away from bird feeders as birds prefer a quiet place for bathing and preening. Attract the birds to your water source with a water dripper placed in the bird bath or a mister in the trees. The gentle sounds of running water will attract the birds and many birds enjoy a bath below the dripper or in a mister as it simulates raindrops on their feathers.

During the winter months a heated bird bath or one fitted with a de-icer will ensure the water is always at the right temperature and available for the birds.

Provide a Natural Environment

Let a part of your garden grow wild and scatter wild flower seeds through the area to provide a natural environment for the birds. hang bird feeders from trees or posts in this area. This will enhance the sense of security for the birds.

Your bird house must be a safe place for birds to nest and bring up their young. Here are some tips for making your bird house proof from squirrels, yellow jackets, snakes, cats, wasps, ants and other invasive birds.

Perches

There is no need to have any perches in your bird house. The nesting birds do not need them and they only provide a means for predators to gain entrance. many bird houses come with a perch under the entrance hole. Remove it!

Baffles

A bird house mounted on a pole can have baffles fitted to prevent predators from climbing the pole and gaining entrance to the bird house. A metal baffle is preferable as it cannot be chewed. A bird house mounted on a tree can also have baffles attached to the tree trunk.

Metal plates

A metal plate fitted with a small entrance hole can be placed over the original hole on the bird house. This will prevent predators from enlarging the hole to gain entrance.

Entrance Hole

use a bird house with a small entrance hole that is just large enough for the species of bird you wish to attract. A larger hole will allow invading birds to gain entrance and eject the baby birds inside.

Ants Nests

Regularly check around the bird house (and bird feeders if you have them) for ants nests. Deal with them quickly using a method that is not harmful to wild birds.

Metal Poles

For bird houses mounted on metal poles slip a large PVC pipe over the pole before mounting the bird house. This will deter squirrels, snakes and raccoons from climbing up to the bird house. You could also smear vegetable oil on the pipe.

Cats

Fit your cat with a collar with a bell to prevent her sneaking up on the birds.

In some urban areas it is quite difficult for children to find activities that will keep them out of trouble. There are many organizations though that focus on keeping kids in urban areas busy by allowing them to play on basketball courts at their youth centers. While this type of basketball will entertain certain urban residents, it will also give parents a fighting chance to raise children up the right way and not have to worry about them ending up in jail one day.

Basketball games can be organized in neighborhoods all around America just to give children an outlet for their excess energies. Basketball games are quite acceptable forms of entertainment for children that have too much time on their hands. Some parents do not arrive home from work until well after dark, and the children choose to play basketball with their friends because the games are out in the open and give the kids a good opportunity to stay out of trouble.

Some older males in the neighborhood might even offer to coach a youth basketball team because they know how important it is to keep kids active in the afternoons. With a little inspiration and the right guidance on how to play the game, there is a good chance that one or two basketball players might get interested enough in the game to pursue it as a professional career.

Some local libraries have pitched in to help train children in urban areas to play basketball. They will maintain a good supply of rules books for basketball and have plenty of interesting books that kids can read to find out about basketball teams that are part of the National Basketball Association. Some of the books might be autobiographies about basketball players that are considered to be legends by fans all over the world and the words inside those books might inspire the children to take a different path in life.

After some of these kids learn that they can earn large salaries by playing basketball they might need extra time during the day to devote to playing basketball. A parent will be closer than ever before to a guarantee that their child is not going to be exposed to any type of trouble or unsavory characters while active on the basketball court. With the adult supervision being offered by the coaches, a parent can relax and take care of things that they are supposed to take care of.

A parent does not have to be worried anymore about what their child is doing when they are not playing basketball. The action of the game will consume all of their extra energies and they will not have any strength left to get into any type of trouble. Some urban kids will work hard to achieve their goal as a professional basketball player and will study hard to learn all the techniques that will help them succeed in life. When they are given the opportunity to rest on the sidelines, parents can be assured that resting is all that will be done.

Bird houses add charm, whimsy, and beauty as well as a place for birds to nest.  It is no wonder that the bird house and bird feeder industry is growing.  There are safety factors to consider when buying or building a bird house.  There are some birds that will use a bird house and others that are not attracted to them. 

Types of Bird Houses

The type of bird house you will use depends on the type of bird or birds that you want to attract to your home.  Bird houses come in many shapes, sizes, colors and materials.  One of the best types of bird houses is the wooden one.  There are several reasons to choose this type of bird house.  Wooden bird houses can breath for ventilation, are durable and have a good insulation quality to them.  Gourds are another good material for bird houses.  They are functional, breathable, and pretty as well.  Properly designed pottery, concrete, and plastic houses will breathe and are also durable. When choosing the bird house that you will use for your feathered friends always check for proper ventilation, drainage, and easy access for maintenance and monitoring.  When considering the type of bird house that you want another thing to think about are safety and maintenance.

Safety and Proper Maintenance

Items to consider once you have chosen the type of bird house that you want are ventilation, drainage, ease of access for maintenance and protection from predators.  You should also make sure that no harmful chemicals where used on the materials used for the building of your bird house.  You would not want your new friends to become sick.  Part of proper maintenance of your new bird house is to check them for unwanted critters, such as fleas, wasp, or flies.  Sometimes mice and others will want to take up residence in your bird house. The main thing to remember if this happens is to remove them.  If insects are the problem, use only pesticides that are not harmful to your feathered friends.  “If wasps are a problem, coat the inside top of the box with bar soap” (US Fish & Wildlife Service “Homes for Birds”).  One of the problems that you may encounter while cleaning the nest and parasites or insects are present, baby birds may also be present.  If one of the baby birds gets out of the nest you can pick it up and put it back where it was.  Birds have a lousy sense of smell and they will not reject the babies because you helped them. 

Don’t let the care and safety be a deterrent in deciding whether you want a bird house or not.  The upkeep and maintenance is part of the joy and can be a wonderful way to learn more about your new birds. You will quickly become a backyard birder with your new bird house or houses. The joy of watching beautiful bird is an immeasurable pleasure.
